Beginning in 2006, Thornton Academy added middle school students to its roster of competitive athletes who are working hard and working out on campus. Soon after TAMS opened its doors, middle school coaches and their students were granted access to the high school's facilities. TAMS is a member of the Southern Maine Middle School Athletic Conference and currently supports twelve teams, including: boys and girls soccer, basketball, indoor and outdoor track & field, cross country, baseball, and softball.

Junior Trojans are the future football and cheering stars of Thornton Academy! This program is open to student athletes entering 2nd through 8th grade who are residents of Saco, Dayton or Arundel. Practices and home games are held at the Thornton Academy campus on a designated field. The football players and cheerleaders benefit by playing and cheering in such close proximity to the high schoolers, who serve as role models.

In 2013 a brand-new facility opened on the Thornton Academy campus to support the Junior Trojans. With a fitting maroon and gold exterior, the building houses a concession stand, bathrooms, and storage space. It overlooks the playing field, and serves as a very helpful resource for parents, coaches, and athletes.
