Residential Life & Homestay
Thornton Academy is a close-knit community where everyone knows everyone on campus, and relationships are meaningful. The residential program at Thornton Academy offers students the opportunity to make their experience an even more personal one, where they'll develop lifelong friendships with their teachers and fellow students, and be a special part of the campus community.
Thornton Academy has six dormitories for students choosing to live on campus. Each room includes a bed, a desk, a wardrobe, a dresser, a bookshelf, and a chair for each student. All students have access to the campus-wide wi-fi, dorm lounges with big screen TVs, laundry facilities, on-campus dining providing three meals a day, plus kitchenettes, pianos, and a new outdoor basketball court.
Students may also choose to live with one of our wonderful local homestay families. Living with a homestay family gives students the chance to experience true cultural exchange, and also provides the individual attention and and inclusion that the student needs to thrive. Homestays are coordinated by Thornton Academy, and each student's needs and interests are considered when being matched with a homestay family.
Each weekend, students are offered a number of fun activities and trips. Students can choose which activities they'd like to join, or they can choose to relax on campus, or spend their free time studying. Activities include going to the movies, trips to Portland and Boston, local hiking expeditions, shopping, sporting events, concerts, etc.
Residential students eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner on campus in our dining commons. Dining services are provided by Flik and features foods from whole fresh ingredients. We also offer organic, local, and Fair Trade fruits and vegetables when available. To see our dining offerings each day click here.
