Thornton Academy's Graduation will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Hill Stadium (in the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors to Linnell Gym; this decision will be made by 10:00 AM).
23 students from the Class of 2017 achieved summa cum laude status by earning a 4.0 or greater GPA.
Thornton Academy seniors Caleb Bailey and Ben Leary have been accepted into The University of Maine's College of Engineering with sophomore status through a first-in-the-state partnership forged to create a pipeline of Maine residents entering the engineering sector. Both students are completing a rigorous curriculum that has included Advanced Placement (AP) courses in chemistry, physics, computer science, calculus, foreign language, the humanities, history/social science, and English, as well as an Honors Introduction of Engineering course. First announced in 2013, this unique articulation agreement allows the students to complete 30 college credits, bypassing freshman year—an estimated savings of at least $24,000.
295 Thornton Academy students took 540 AP exams in 2017. With 24 AP courses, TA leads the state of Maine in course offerings.
Thornton Academy's Lloyd Hunt Lecture Series welcomed Joshua Bodwell who spoke about his writing life and writing in Maine.
On Thursday, May 11, an Opening Reception for "Amongst the Art" was held in O'Neill Gallery. This is the largest exhibit of the year with about 270 submissions and 150 artworks selected for display.
The 2016 Thornton Academy Yearbook (Tripod) was awarded the First Place, All-New England Journalism Award as the best Yearbook by a school with an enrollment over 1,000 students (Class I) at the New England Scholastic Press Association Conference.
There are many spring arts events to attend at Thornton Academy, including dance, music, visual arts, and videography.
Join us for another installment of the Lloyd Hunt Lecture Series on May 15 from 6:30-8 PM as we welcome Joshua Bodwell to campus. Bodwell is Executive Director for the Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance and will speak about writing in Maine. This event is free and open to the public.
SUMMER CAMP: Calling all soccer players! Join us for a fun, informative camp Monday, June 26th – Thursday June 29th from 9:00 AM to noon daily. It is designed to meet the needs of players grades 5 – 8 (ages 10 – 14). The cost per camper will be $75.00.

The 2016-2017 Honors Banquet was held on April 11th in the TA Dining Commons and Garland Auditorium to recognize the top 10% of students in the sophomore, junior, and senior classes for their academic excellence.
Thornton Academy Students promote Everyday Body Confidence through a popular Facebook site, encouraging all to practice positive perceptions of themselves.
A group of international students recently answered questions about teenage life and education in their respective countries for the Ambassadors Program.
The Guidance Department will be hosting a "Gap Year Fair" on Tuesday, May 2 during block 3 in the Atrium. Students are invited to learn about some of the organizations that offer programs during their lunch wave.
