Thornton's broad and comprehensive academic program offers appealing classes at all levels, both middle school and high school. No matter what kind of student you are, no matter what you're after-Thornton recognizes the importance of balancing work and play. Where do your interests lie?
Extracurricular Activities: Middle school or high school, Thornton students have many choices. Middle school students - Do you sing? Join the Chorus. Play an instrument? Maybe the band is for you. Like to write? Become a member of the yearbook staff, or work on the newspaper. There are lots of ways to pursue your interests or explore new activities, including fun and community service! High school students-If you have a passion for social justice, students in the Amnesty International Club work to raise awareness of human rights issues around the world. If you are intrigued by the action and arguments of politics, work on the mock election or participate in the voter registration drive sponsored by the Political Affairs Club. If television appeals to you, try out both sides of the camera on TA-TV Channel 3. If you love Mother Nature, try the Outdoor Adventure Club. You can be sure, if you have an interest, there probably are a host of other TA students who share it. Athletics: Maybe you are an athlete. Whether fall, winter or spring, there are plenty of campus sports opportunities. Thornton fields many sports teams at the middle school, freshman, junior varsity, and varsity levels. Join one of our interscholastic teams. If sports are your life, check our current athletic calendar. Arts: If you're an artist, Thornton has a wide array of opportunities for you to explore as well. Middle school students will be glad to know that arts are a vital part of every day's schedule. Seventh graders have visual arts classes daily all year, while 6th graders and 8th graders participate on alternating days (health/wellness and foreign language classes occur on the other days). And there are extracurricular arts choices, including Art Club, Drama Club, Band and Chorus. At the high school level, there are plenty of regular credit-bearing courses in visual arts (drawing, painting, pottery, digital imaging), music (strings, band and voice), theater and dance. See the available arts course selections in the Program of Study. Of course, you don't have to take an entire class to enjoy the Thornton arts program. Check out the arts-oriented extracurricular activities as well. Thornton Academy - it isn't just about math, English, history and science. It's about work and play.
