Where Creativity Thrives
unlease your creativity with us

Grades 6 – 12

Growing up – It's about expressing yourself...

With faculty support
Thornton has an impressive arts faculty: three high school and one middle school visual arts teachers, a chorus teacher, an instrumental teacher, a strings teacher, a dance teacher, and a theater teacher. It sponsors a resident poet for a 12-week evening class, and it has enrichment funds that support visiting artists. Choose any of these great staff members as your mentor.

In a creative environment
No question about it, the arts are alive at Thornton Academy! Whether you are a sixth grader or a senior in high school, whether your artistic interests are visual, theatrical or musical, there are all sorts of ways to express yourself artistically at Thornton!

At the middle school level, seventh grade students have arts every day, while the rest of our middle school students have arts two or three times every week.

At the high school level Thornton has substantial arts programming. Fundamentals courses give you a thorough knowledge of each arts subject before you start intensive studio courses. Among the studio courses are: pottery, TV production, acting, chamber orchestra, music theory, digital imaging, concert choir, jazz studies, wind ensemble, drawing, choreography, painting, concert and jazz band, costuming, film, and piano.

Thornton Academy is full of creative outlets. Use your flair for graphic design and writing in desktop publishing, Web page design, multimedia presentations, newspaper production, or yearbook publication. Or make a movie or slide show for any of your classes. Or stay after school and participate in arts, drama, or music groups at all grade levels.

Let your imagination flow in the creative outlet of your choice.

With facilities to match
Thornton has the facilities and equipment to make your dreams happen. Use one of over 600 laptops at the high school (every middle school student has a personal laptop to use daily in school and at home). Use dedicated computer labs. Make yourself at home in one of seven studios, the arts gallery, or the 500-seat auditorium. Test your talents by exploring a working stage with sound and lighting equipment more sophisticated than many small colleges. Come take advantage of a campus unlike any other.
