Saturday Senior Spotlight: Hazel Stoddard

Welcome to our Saturday Senior Spotlights for 2021! We will be highlighting a wide variety of Thornton Academy members of the class of 2021 and featuring their accomplishments in the classroom, on the athletic field, in academic competitions, in the arts, and out in the real world. We are so proud of the resilience and dedication of this class in particular and are excited to share their stories.

Today's spotlight features Hazel Stoddard. Hazel comes to us from Old Orchard Beach and has been very active during her time at Thornton Academy. She has been a member of the varsity soccer and lacrosse teams all four years and also serves on the Leadership Council for National Honor Society. Next year, Hazel will attend Maine Maritime Academy study Power Engineering Technology. She will also play soccer and lacrosse for the Mariners.

What's your favorite spot on campus, and why?

My favorite spot on the TA Campus has to be Hill Stadium. I have many fond memories of playing soccer and lacrosse on the turf.

What is your favorite Thornton Academy tradition and why?

My most-loved TA tradition is the pep rallies. They were always so entertaining to watch and I loved attending them.

What is your favorite class, teacher, or club?

My favorite extra-curricular activity was TA Girls Soccer. Coach Sharland and Coach Defo made it really fun to be apart of the team. Senior year was great because my younger sister was also on the team.

What are you most proud of from your time at Thornton Academy?

I am most proud of my success on the TA soccer and lacrosse teams. I made varsity as a freshman for both sports which is a huge accomplishment.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

After graduating from Maine Maritime Academy, I hope to have a great engineering job somewhere close to home or in the New England area. I hope to also travel in my spare time.
