Saturday Senior Spotlight: Grace Courtney

Welcome to our Saturday Senior Spotlights for 2021! We will be highlighting a wide variety of Thornton Academy members of the class of 2021 and featuring their accomplishments in the classroom, on the athletic field, in academic competitions, in the arts, and out in the real world. We are so proud of the resilience and dedication of this class in particular and are excited to share their stories.

Today's spotlight features Grace Courtney.  During her four years at Thornton Academy, Grace has kept herself busy through lots of classes in our Visual Arts department, as well as being a member of our swimming team and various productions of the Thornton Players. Next year, she will be attending the University of Vermont as a studio art major.

What's your favorite spot on campus, and why?

The lane of trees in the quad, always very scenic in the spring and summer.

What is your favorite Thornton Academy tradition and why?

I loved my time on the swim team and will cherish the memories I made. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and they made my time there wicked fun.

What is your favorite class, teacher, or club?

Pottery—Highlight of my junior year, and shout-out to Ms. Altman for always making my day.

What are you most proud of from your time at Thornton Academy?

I made one of my best works in my painting class junior year. One of my favorite pieces of my own work to date.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I want to become a painting conservator, so I’ll hopefully be closer to that goal.
