Welcome to TA, from the School Nurses
At the beginning of August, incoming 9th-grade parents will receive a welcome letter from our School Nursing Team. In addition to information about required immunizations in Maine schools, the nursing team is inviting parents to reach out to share information about their child’s healthcare needs. Parents can reach a school nurse at health@thorntonacademy.org.
PowerSchool Information Update
Parents of all enrolled students in grades 9-12 will receive a very important information update request from the school’s tech office during the first week of August. Please take a few moments to update information accordingly, so the school has accurate information about your child/family. For more information, you may reach the tech office at helpdesk@thorntonacademy.org.
Meet the Dean of the Class of 2027!
Mr. Kevin Kezal is the Dean of the Class of 2027. Mr. Kezal began working at Thornton Academy in 1994. He has served as a teacher in the mathematics department, and most recently as a Dean of Students and the Head Varsity Football Coach. Mr. Kezal’s role as a Dean provides him the opportunity to get to know individual members of the class through the support of student attendance and creating a positive school climate. Mr. Kezal is excited to begin working with the incoming 9th graders in September. He can be reached during the school year at 602-4420 or kevin.kezal@thorntonacademy.org.

Fall Athletic Parent Night, Wednesday, August 9
If your student has signed up to try out for fall sports, you have recently received communication from the Athletic Office about an important and informative parent information evening. Please join our Athletic Administrator, Mr. Gary Stevens on Wednesday, August 9 at 6:00 pm. Mr. Stevens will be resending the link to the online meeting again prior to the event.

Incoming 9th-grade parent nights
Headmaster Rene Menard and Associate Head of School Carol Taranko will be inviting incoming 9th-grade parents to evening information sessions in August to learn more about Thornton Academy’s Upper School and what students can expect during the first few days of the school year. Please check your inbox for a special invitation.
Start of the Year Important Dates:
August 30 - First Day for 9th-grade students at the Upper School
August 31 - All Upper School (grades 9-12) students report (Gold Day)
NO SCHOOL - September 1 and September 4 – Labor Day Weekend
September 5 - All Upper School (Grades 9-12) students report (Maroon Day)
September 7 – “Meet the Faculty” Open House at 6:00 pm.
