Eric Purvis '81, left, received the Private Sector Award from the Biddeford Saco Rotary Club for "his years of service to and leadership of Thornton Academy, and for his efforts to make Thornton a first class school for its students and staff." Eric has been the President of Thornton's Board of Trustees since 2009.

Eric is pictured with former Thornton Academy Trustee Bill Kany '77, who presented Eric with the award at a Rotary Club meeting. "He has provided a calm and strong voice throughout very challenging and constantly changing times," said Bill. "TA and our community will forever be indebted to him for his leadership."

The Private Sector Award is awarded to a citizen whose good works have been performed independently of their employment, usually in the private sector. Recipients work for the public good, outside of his or her employment.
