Saturday Senior Spotlight: Monserratt Hernandez Gonzalez

Welcome to our Saturday Senior Spotlights for 2021! We will be highlighting a wide variety of Thornton Academy members of the class of 2021 and featuring their accomplishments in the classroom, on the athletic field, in academic competitions, in the arts, and out in the real world. We are so proud of the resilience and dedication of this class in particular and are excited to share their stories.

Today's spotlight features Monserratt Hernandez Gonzalez. Monse is in her third year at Thornton Academy and comes to us from CDMX, Mexico. During her time at Thornton Academy, Monse has been a member of the art club and National Honor Society. Next year, she will be attending Ohio State University with a major in business: economics and a minor in studio art.

What's your favorite spot on campus, and why?

My favorite spot on TA is the space in between the dorms. When it’s warm outside I can sit in the chairs that are there and hang out with my friends, as well as play some outdoor games or even just sit and relax.

What is your favorite Thornton Academy tradition and why?

I really like the international fair. It is the time when all of the international students get to share a little piece of our culture to everyone else. It’s such a fun experience.

What is your favorite class, teacher, or club?

I have had many great teachers through my journey at TA but I would say that some of the teachers that I consider them to be my favorite would be Frau Curtis, Mrs. Merry and Mrs. Maalouf. They all are really nice, kind and friendly and always try to make their class fun. They also make sure that everyone feels good and included in their class.

What are you most proud of from your time at Thornton Academy?

I’m most proud of coming here. It was such a big step in my life. Leaving everything behind like my family and my friends and pushing myself to new experiences and cultures was definitely challenging, would I change it? Of course not. I’m proud of me for the experiences, knowledges and relationships I’ve gained while being here.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Honestly I have no idea. Life can just take me to a different place from where I imagine myself to be but I can definitely say that I see myself with a degree and probably even a masters degree but everything else I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
