- Middle School
- Upper School
Dear Thornton Academy families:
As you may know, the suspect in the Lewiston shootings remains at large. Out of an abundance of caution, and in conjunction with the Saco School Department, we will close the TA campus again today. However, upper school and middle school students will have a remote, asynchronous day of learning. Students will be expected to log in to Google Classroom for all their maroon day classes and follow expectations posted there.
As parents and guardians, sometimes the best thing we can do following a tragedy is to provide an opportunity for our students to share their feelings. If you’d like suggestions on how to have supportive conversations with your student, we have posted informational links on our website to help guide you. The website also includes community resources that may be helpful. Visit http://www.thorntonacademy.
My hope is that we will return to campus on Monday. When we do, our school counseling team will be available to speak with students who may be struggling with the aftermath of this tragedy.
Our hearts go out to those affected by this terrible situation, with hopes that we’ll see a resolution soon. I also want to extend my gratitude and appreciation to the hundreds of law enforcement personnel who are working so diligently to capture the suspect and end this ordeal.
Please take care of yourselves and your loved ones.
