TA names George Sherry new Girls’ Soccer Coach
George Sherry is taking the helm as the head coach of the Thornton Academy girls’ soccer team.
George has coached the girls’ soccer team at Waynflete in Portland for the past 7 years. Last season he guided the Flyers to the Class C state championship, the program’s first in a decade.
The Tolland, Connecticut, native played 4 years of varsity men’s soccer at the University of Maine. Following his graduation in 1996, he coached the boys’ soccer program at Old Town High School.
George also brings extensive experience as a premier level soccer coach with the Portland-based Maine Lightning. He has worked at Saco Middle School for the past 26 years as a science, reading, and physical education teacher.
