Thornton Academy high school students pose with a portion of items collected for 90 Helping Hand Bags that were delivered to the Saco Police Department for unhoused people. The bags included toiletries, snacks, water, a blanket and other essential items.
Meanwhile, students at TA’s Middle School (TAMS) held a very successful food drive to benefit local food pantries and the school’s backpack program, which provides food to students in need. The food drive was the inspiration of the school’s Civil Rights Club which partnered with TAMS’ Honors Club and Student Council to spearhead the three-week event. The schools’ 180 students collected an amazing 1,474 items!
The upper and middle school Student Councils then combined efforts to provide holiday gifts for 12 families in the Salvation Army’s Adopt-A-Family program (below).
“This joyful tradition brings our community together, and we’re proud to partner with the Salvation Army to bring warmth, generosity, and holiday cheer to families in need,” says Student Council Advisor Mary Ann Martin.
