Thornton Academy theater group takes top spot in State competition

The Thornton Academy Drama Club took first place in the One Act Play Competition at the Maine Drama Festival, held at Windham High School on March 20 - 21.
The cast and crew of 25 students performed The Dancers by Horton Foote, a heartfelt story about a timid young man whose life changes when he’s introduced to a local schoolgirl.
Thornton edged out eight other regional winners after earning a spot in the competition. In all, 37 schools across the state competed in the One Act Play Competition.
The performance, co-directed by Thornton Arts instructors Dave Hanright and Katie Buttarazzi (pictured), included 10 scenes.
Thornton next travels to the New England Festival in Vermont on April 30 - May 2.
