People attending an event at Paul S. Hill Jr Stadium will notice two things: a new turf and track, and a new name on the turf – Kezal Field.
The TA Board of Trustees voted to honor Kevin’s legacy as the most successful football coach in the school’s storied history.
Kezal-led teams have reached the state championship 10 times – including the last seven – bringing home seven gold balls. The Trojans' victory over Portland in 2025’s title game also gave Kevin his 200th win against only 56 losses.
“Kevin Kezal’s accomplishments during his 26 years as TA’s Head Football Coach are remarkable,” says Trustee President Eric Purvis. “Two hundred wins and counting, seven state championships in 10 appearances, and being named Mike Landry Coach of the Year several times is unparalleled in TA’s long athletic history. Coach Kezal has had a positive impact on student-athletes during his many years at TA, and TA’s Trustees are pleased to recognize his accomplishments, both on and off the field, by naming the athletic field at Hill Stadium ‘Kezal Field’ in honor of Kevin Kezal.“
“In the last 26 years as a teacher, dean, and coach at Thornton Academy, no one person has put more time and effort into our students, our school, and our community than Coach Kezal,” says Lance Johnson, Thornton’s athletic director. “We congratulate and thank him for his leadership, dedication, and the pride he brings to Thornton Academy.
