Thornton graduates told to ‘take on the challenges’ of life

Thornton Academy celebrated the Class of 2024 on Monday night with commencement ceremonies on a picture-perfect evening at Dr. Paul S. Hill, Jr. Stadium in Saco.

“Live honestly, and do what you want to do with your life and take on the challenges that come with it,” Valedictorian Nora Freeman told her classmates. “Follow your passions wherever they may lead you and however challenging they may be at times.”

The 291 students who received diplomas included 43 who graduated summa cum laude, earning a grade point average of 4.0 or better.

Many graduates plan to continue their education at colleges that include MIT, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Northwestern University, and Tufts University, along with several colleges, universities, and trade schools in Maine. Seven are joining the military or will attend a military academy.

Addison Ireland receives her diploma from Eric Purvis, Chair of the Thornton Academy Board of Trustees.
