English

Discover your voice through the study of literature, communication, thought, and perspective.

The faculty in the English Department are passionate for literature and their commitment to facilitating student growth in communication skills, development of voice, and independent thought.

The curriculum spans centuries and continents to provide students with an awareness of how their own historical and cultural perspective is shaped. The vicarious experience literature offers encourages the development of compassion, while the process of writing helps students develop reasoning skills so that they may become confident participants in shaping the future of their communities.-Kate timberlake, english department chair

featured class: Monsters & misfits

In Monsters & Misfits, students concentrate on examining the nature of our fears and how monsters and misfits come to symbolize cultural anxieties. Students apply cultural theory to examine and identify classical literary misfits and monsters and their manifestations in the 21st century through research, writing and critical cultural analysis of film and literature.
