Languages

Discover the world through language.

In the Languages Department we prepare students to communicate in a changing world. With seven languages available, Thornton Academy students peek into past and present cultures of many parts of the world. Languages include Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Latin, and Spanish.

Classes are centered around communication. Students are challenged to take the vocabulary and grammar that they learn and apply it in real-world situations. Teachers take advantage of authentic resources via technology.

Students benefit from exchange programs in France and Germany. They have the opportunity to host partners from these countries and travel to our partner schools to deepen their grasp of these languages.

featured class: Arabic

In Arabic class, students learn not just the language of much of the Middle East and North Africa but also about exciting features of the related cultures like food, dress and music. With engaging teachers, Arabic is quickly becoming a popular language option at Thornton Academy.

Laughing during Latin class

Language is not necessarily a way of speaking; it's a way of thinking. It's a whole new world of opportunity, a whole new world of possibility. With language, the world is yours, you just have to want it.
