Science
Scientists are driven to explore the curiosities of the natural world.
The Thornton Academy Science Department seeks to foster this curiosity in all its students. With a wide selection of course offerings, an evolving and relevant curriculum, numerous Advanced Placement options, and rigorous STEM endorsements, TA Science has a path for all students.
Science teachers at Thornton Academy believe strongly that experimentation and discovery are the keys to scientific learning. Students perform labs on a regular basis and are exposed to scientific writing to document their findings.
iPads and other devices figure prominently in science & engineering classes. In physics, iPads track velocity of a student-designed race car. In biology, data is kept about growth of microorganisms sprouted in class. In engineering, use a computer-based design program to design your own boat.

featured class: Maine fish & wildlife
Taught by a Certified Maine Guide, this course explores the living wonders Maine has to offer. Inside as much as out, Fish and Wildlife students explore local birds, animals and fish, their life cycles and the politics and practice of responsible management of these resources.
Getting to use lab equipment has given me a taste of what it will be like to study science in the real world. All of the skills that I have accumulated throughout my time at TA will be crucial to my success as I study engineering in college. I am so grateful to have had such caring teachers that have pushed me to perform my best on all of my work.
