Wellness

Be healthy, be well, be your best you.

The Wellness Department at Thornton Academy strives to help students achieve total well-being in the many different dimensions of health and wellness. Wellness isn’t limited to physical aspects; it includes mental, social, and emotional health as well. Here at Thornton Academy, the many areas of Wellness are addressed in a way that fits each student’s individual lifestyle, interests, and strengths. All students take three semester-long classes.  Freshmen take Principles of Personal Fitness; sophomores take Current Issues in Wellness. Finally, students choose from among several options, including athletic program participation, to fulfill their physical activity requirement.

The Wellness Department offers many electives to students with interests in the health and wellness fields. Students currently can take Applied Exercise Science, Sport Psychology, and/or Nutrition. Periodically, courses in topics such as stress management, sport in American culture, and CPR/first aid are offered. Teachers in the Wellness Department look forward to being part of every TA student’s educational experience.
