Technology
Our students take advantage of cutting-edge, award-winning technology.
Technology at Thornton Academy is more than a temporary solution to remote learning. We have been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School since 2016 and all of our faculty have extensive technology training that they deploy in the classroom.
Our students benefit from a 1:1 device program. Students grades 6 & 7 use laptops, and students grades 8-11 use iPad Airs. Whether it's using an Apple Pencil to create unique drawings in art class or doing a video call with Johns Hopkins University to complete a contract tracing course in AP Biology, you can be assured that you will use your device every day.
Apple Distinguished School
Thornton Academy is recognized by Apple as a distinguished school for continuous innovation in learning, teaching, and the school environment. Apple Distinguished Schools are centers of innovation, leadership, and educational excellence that use Apple products to inspire creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. They showcase innovative uses of technology in learning, teaching, and the school environment and have documented results of academic accomplishment.
Thornton Academy provides a wide variety of technology-based learning and studies that help guide students to new discoveries and ideas. Through my broadcasting with TATV and my studies in New Media, I have prepared myself for a future career in the digital media field.

Technology & New Media Courses
Students in these classes take advantage of the latest technology and software tools. All classes are held in our Technology and New Media Center, purposefully designed to encourage visibility and collaboration between students and disciplines. Grouping programming, digital media creation, web design, and robotics is an intentional effort to encourage teachers and students to be conscious of where these technologies overlap, connect, and integrate.
