Middle School Admissions

Join our supportive environment where students can grow and thrive.

Thornton Academy Middle School (TAMS) welcomes students from over 15 towns in Southern Maine, as well as international students from all over the world.

TAMS is an ideal setting for adolescents to experiment, grow, and discover themselves in a supportive and nurturing environment. The small, close-knit community allows teachers to provide an individualized approach in the classroom, which in turn works to encourage motivated and high achieving students who need to be stretched and challenged. TAMS builds a foundation of trust and support for those students who need extra care and support in specific areas.

Ready to take the next step? The application process is simple, and our team is ready to support you every step of the way.

APRIL 15 is the deadline for all application and financial aid materials for TAMS.

step-by-step admissions process

Step 1: Fill out the online application

Create a parent portal, pay the $50 application fee, and fill out the online application: Thornton Academy Online Application

Once you've submitted your application and created a parent portal, you can track your application progress and status online. Please keep track of your username and password as you will need them later in the enrollment process.

Step 2: submit required documents

Upload the required supplemental materials to your online parent portal, or send them to us at tams@thorntonacademy.org.

Required additional materials:

  • Three letters of recommendation: two teacher recommendations, one personal recommendation
  • Report cards from your previous school
  • For international students: Test results are not required, but if you'd like to submit results from an English test, we welcome these as part of the application review.

Step 3: schedule a visit and interview

All applicants are invited to visit campus and take part in an interview. We also offer shadow days for students who are interested in experiencing what TAMS is like on a day-to-day basis. To schedule your visit and interview, or a shadow day, contact Debbie Crepeau, TAMS Administrative Assistant, at 207-602-4408 or tams@thorntonacademy.org.

The changes that we have witnessed in both of our children are astounding.  Both daughters are flourishing in the classroom and in life. TAMS was exactly what our family needed at the most critical time.  Thank you for everything that you and your staff does to make TAMS the place that it is.
