New England Scholarship


Thornton Academy extends an extra warm welcome to students from New England: Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Families must reside in one of these states, or own vacation property in Maine. Students who meet this qualification are eligible for a $15,000 scholarship.

New England Scholarship FAQ

Q: Who is the New England Scholarship open to?
A: Students whose primary residence is in Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, or Connecticut; and/or Maine vacation property owners. Applicants must be applying for the boarding program and could be in grades 6-12. 
 

Q: How do I apply for the scholarship?
A: Submit the Thornton Academy online application, all supplemental materials, fill out the Clarity Financial Aid application, and New England Scholarship application. 

Q: Does the scholarship continue each year?
A: Yes, the New England Scholarship automatically renews each year, as long as the student remains in good academic and behavioral standing at Thornton Academy. 

Q: How much is the New England Scholarship worth? 
A: Award amount varies from $2,000 - $15,000 annually.

Q: Can I also apply for need-based financial aid?
A: Yes! Applicants must fill out the Clarity Financial Aid Application. Students will be notified of their award amount at the time an admission decision is communicated.
