2021 - Brynn Smith '07

Brynn Smith is widely regarded as the best female thrower in the history of Thornton Academy track and field. Brynn holds the school record for the discus and is also the indoor and outdoor school record holder in the shot put.

Brynn scored in the discus in the state meet her junior and senior years and also placed in the New England meet her senior year.

As good as she was with the discus, it is the shot put where Brynn really excelled. In outdoor track, she won the shot put title in both her junior and senior years, and placed her senior year in the New England Championship meet. During her junior season of indoor track, Brynn won the state championship and placed in the New England Championship. During her senior campaign, she again won the state championship, was runner-up in the New England Championship meet, and qualified for the national championship. Brynn was also a member of the 2004 girls outdoor state championship team as a freshman.

Brynn continued her career at Brown University, where she still holds the school record in the indoor shot put and outdoors in the hammer throw. Overall, she won nine Ivy League championships. Also, she twice won the indoor shot put and weight throw in the same meet at the Ivy League Championships and outdoors twice won shot put and hammer throw in the same meet at the Ivy League Championships. Brynn was named Athlete of the Meet three times in her college career. She was a second team All-American her senior year and qualified for the U.S. National Championships in the hammer throw.
