Varsity Boys Soccer
In 2024, TA Boys Soccer will be 50 years old! The sport of soccer and the program have come a long way since 1974. In 2012, we opened the Eastern Trail Field as our primary varsity training space on campus. The 2015 season saw the program attain the #4 Seed in the South Region State Tournament. The team in 2017 enter the State Tournament as the #8 seed – defeating undefeated and #1 Seed South Portland in the Quarterfinals and exiting the tournament in the Regional Semifinal dropping a contest to Portland.
Thornton Academy has several real grass practice fields on campus. Home matches are played on the turf of Hill Stadium when possible.
Tryouts for upper school boys and girls soccer begins in mid-August. While the varsity teams are quite competitive, students with less experience are able to join the other teams. Practice for TAMS soccer begins in early September. There are no tryouts for the TAMS soccer team. In the off-season, some players join club teams to develop their skills.
