International students fight stereotypes

Three Thornton Academy international students made their debut as teachers this past week! Ina, Monica and Daniel worked with Ms. Carew  to design a meaningful community service project.  Thornton Academy is excited to welcome Cornelia Carew as a new International Guidance Counselor and know that her experience and dedication will enable our students to participate in projects like this one.

TA students met with students from Breakwater School in Portland to discuss stereotypes that exist about Asians and Americans. The middle school students enjoyed our TA students so much that they are invited back! This experience is helping our TA students to gain leadership skills, as well as value the importance of giving back to a community.
