Recess and SSR
At Thornton Academy Middle School, students get to enjoy recess – a time to get outside, socialize and take a break from the day. It’s unique to have such time at the middle school level but we feel it’s important to allow our students an outlet for their energy before focusing back in the classroom.
TAMS also offers 20 minutes every day of SSR, sustained silent reading. Reading is a key indicator to academic success, and dedicating this time each day for students to explore their passion in reading is vital.
