COVID-19 Information & Resources

Updated Friday, June 3, 2022.

Thornton Academy reported eight positive COVID-19 cases in our school community this week. Thornton Academy uses the Maine Department of Education's Standard Operating Procedures to respond to all reported positive cases of COVID-19 in an effort to maintain the health and safety of our school community.  Questions related to these procedures can be directed to health@thorntonacademy.org.

CHANGE IN MASK POLICY
Thornton Academy has shifted to a mask-optional campus, in alignment with guidelines issued on March 2, 2022, by Governor Janet Mills. Students, staff, and visitors are no longer required to wear a mask while inside our buildings.

We continue to take measures to keep our students, staff, and visitors safe, including:

  • medical grade HEPA air purification filters in all classrooms, educational spaces, lounges, and high traffic hallways
  • 24-hour air quality monitoring devices
  • tents for additional outdoor seating options during lunch waves
  • encouraged continuation of self-screening and reporting of symptoms and positive or presumptive cases to TA nursing team
  • increased cleaning of educational spaces and high traffic areas
  • limiting guests and visitors inside of our campus buildings
  • social distancing when possible

ATTENDENCE UPDATES
Due to COVID-19 related policies, parents/guardians are no longer able to call and report their child’s absence, tardy, or dismissal from school (for either illness or non-illness related absences). We ask that you notify the school about absences via the TAMS Attendance Form or the Upper School Attendance Form. A school nurse will contact the parent/guardian to follow up and determine when a student is able to return to school. The Absent Student Reporting Forms can also be found on the MyTA webpage

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our school nurses at health@thorntonacademy.org.
