Who do you want to be?

Thornton Academy has over 200 courses to prepare you for a changing world. Each student at TA has a unique schedule. You choose the classes that are right for you. School counselors help you to decide which of our hundreds of courses are a good fit. Students at TA take eight courses each year.

Our teachers present classes that are engaging, rigorous, and supportive. You can choose from over 40 Honors classes and 24 AP classes to push yourself to excel. Our school counselors meet with each student to select classes to fit a schedule that is personalized for you. The diversity of our course offerings is unmatched in northern New England.You can start your future with our university partnerships. Agreements with the University of Maine College of Engineering and the University of New England allow you to enter their institutions with sophomore status after completing the necessary coursework at Thornton Academy.

Complete an internship, job shadow, or mentoring placement through our career center. Our career center counselors work to prepare you for job interviews, resume building, and connect you with local innovative employers to explore careers that excite and drive you to succeed in your academics.

Thornton Academy uses a block schedule. 80 minute classes allow students to delve deeply into each subject. During pottery class, use the kiln to fire your work. Chemistry students wear goggles as they do a lab to determine the chemical makeup of an unknown substance. A blues musician teaches about the Civil Rights Era and shares some of his music in English class. At TA, you can discover your passion and take the classes to make it a reality.
