Mr. Matthew Amoroso

Coaching/Advising: Anime ClubMr. Amoroso joined the Science Department at Thornton Academy in 2006. In addition to his current courses, he has also taught astronomy, and an online course called Introduction to Western Philosophy. A 2003 summa cum laude graduate of the University of Southern Maine, Mr. Amoroso was the only freshman ever to become a Presidential Scholar there. He began teaching during his junior year as an undergraduate at the New School in Kennebunk for a semester. During his junior year, he was published in the American Journal of Physics for a computer program he wrote for an advisor's experiment. He has been a teaching assistant at Brandeis University, where he received the David Falkoff Prize for Outstanding Teaching in Physics. Mr. Amoroso taught for two years at Trinity Catholic High School in Newton, MA before beginning to work at Thornton. Mr. Amoroso credits his wife for the wonderful direction his life has taken: "It was after I got married in May 1998 that I was able to go to college and become a teacher rather late in life, thanks to the continued support of my beautiful wife. Without her I would be making eyeglasses at the mall full time instead of just a few days a month."
