Dear Arundel Parents:
By now you may have heard that RSU 21 intends to appeal the recent Superior Court ruling that upholds the legal right of Arundel students to attend TAMS at public expense.
While it is disappointing that RSU 21 continues its attempt to deny Arundel students and parents their legal right to middle school choice, the option to attend TAMS at public expense remains intact.
The law has not changed. Justice Douglas of the Maine Superior Court rejected every argument made by RSU 21. In fact, the Judge concluded that RSU 21's decision "denying the option to enroll at and attend Thornton Academy Middle School at public expense contravenes 20-A M.R.S. §1479(3) and is erroneous as a matter of law."
We at Thornton Academy are confident that the Maine Law Court will agree with the Superior Court and continue to affirm the legal right of Arundel students to attend TAMS at public expense. We will not waver in our commitment to Arundel families and we will continue to welcome all Arundel students, grades 6-12, just as we have for decades.
