Student of the Month

The Rotary Club of Saco Bay’s “Student of the Month” provides a way to recognize students who exemplify high ethical standards, have made noteworthy community/civic contributions, have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement or significant effort, and/or have engaged in other noteworthy accomplishments.

October 2016: Shania Rodriguez

The October 2016 Student of the Month for Thornton Academy is Shania Rodriguez! Shania is a senior who has excelled in academics during her four years at TA, but most importantly, Shania has been a quiet warrior to benefit the lives of others. As the President and one of the founding members of the Disaster Relief Club, she has worked on fundraisers to benefit victims of both local and global disasters. Shania also serves as a mentor at TAMS in science classes. For a career, she hopes to forge her two passions of service and science and become a nurse. Ms. Nicketakis nominated Shania for Student of the Month, noting, “Shania exhibits the pillars of responsibility and compassion as she continuously makes the lives of those around her better, without searching for recognition from others. She always does the right thing for others simply because it is the right thing to do. Congratulations, Shania, and keep on fighting!”

Shania Rodriguez '17, of Saco, left, with foreign language teacher Ms. Nicketakis.
