Inspiring the Next Generation of Artists

The Visual & Performing Arts Department provides a dynamic environment where students discover and shape the artist within themselves while developing critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. Through comprehensive programming in visual art, dance, music, theater, and media arts, students engage in the essential processes of creating, producing, responding, and connecting.
Whether refining technical skills, expressing original ideas, or preparing portfolios and performances, students are challenged to grow artistically and academically.

One Act Play Champions

The TA Players, Thornton Academy’s drama program, were honored as the winners of the 2026 State One-Act Festival, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association. Following this achievement, our students represented Maine at the New England Drama Festival in Rutland, Vermont, where they received numerous commendations for their performance of Horton Foote’s The Dancers.

Recycled Percussion and Dance at Merrill

Recycled Percussion collaborated with the Thornton Academy Dance Company during a performance at the Merrill Auditorium in late 2025. The famous "junk rock" band, known for their appearance on America's Got Talent, held energetic drumming workshops for youth and students in the region. Their residency culminated in an evening performance where the TA Dance Company was able to perform a dance alongside the band onstage!
