Media Arts at TA–
The Intersection of Art & Industry

The Media Arts at Thornton Academy recognizes the unique niche that digital media plays in both the arts and the business world. It is an art that can stand alone, such as in Digital Photography, Graphic Design, and Movie Making.

The Digital world is also an art space that supports other aspects of a much larger business world, such as advertising, web marketing, social media design, the gaming world, illustration, and art direction, just to name a few.

Movie Making 1
Lights, camera, choose your story! In this course, students step into the role of independent filmmakers and bring original ideas to the screen. You’ll explore screenwriting, acting, cinematography, sound design, and editing while learning what it takes to create a movie from start to finish. You’ll work as part of a filmmaking team while also developing your own voice as a writer, actor, and filmmaker.

Courses that Elevate Learning through Real-World Design

Students in the Media Arts have an opportunity to work with industry standards in software and design philosophies to hone their understanding of the basic principles of graphic design and, more importantly, to understand the relationships between typography and imagery. Many projects serve real customers within the community, including area businesses, non-profits, and Thornton Academy itself - through the design and publication of the student yearbook and many other printed and digital works.
