Where Young Performers Thrive

Chamber Singers

Chamber Singers is an auditioned performance ensemble for advanced singers who are ready to challenge themselves and grow as vocalists. You’ll perform a diverse repertoire ranging from sacred and secular music to foreign-language works and jazz, while developing advanced vocal techniques and musicianship. As a member of the ensemble, you’ll focus on the details that make great choral music come alive—including balance, blend, expression, and ensemble performance. Chamber Singers members also perform with Concert Choir, giving you even more opportunities to collaborate and perform. This is a performance-based course, so outside rehearsals and performances are an essential part of the experience.

Symphony Orchestra

Symphony Orchestra is a select ensemble for string musicians who are ready to challenge themselves with advanced orchestral music and techniques. You’ll build on your technical skills, explore more complex repertoire, and grow as both an individual musician and ensemble performer. This course offers an enriched environment where you’ll collaborate with other dedicated musicians and prepare for performances alongside the Wind Ensemble. Daily practice and a commitment to continued growth are essential, and students are encouraged to complement their ensemble experience with private lessons. This is a performance-based course, so outside rehearsals and performances are an important part of the experience.

Dance Company

Be a part of something bigger than yourself. Dance Company is an opportunity for experienced dancers to take their training to the next level while gaining valuable performance and choreography experience. You’ll work with a variety of choreographers to refine your technique, musicality, spatial awareness, and expressive abilities while building a diverse performance repertoire. Beyond dancing, you’ll learn what it takes to be part of a professional-style dance company, including rehearsal processes, repertoire development, performance production, and company management. The company performs at Thornton Academy as well as schools and venues throughout the community. This is a performance-based course, so outside rehearsals and performances are an essential part of the experience.

Jazz Band

Jazz Band is for musicians who are ready to take their playing to the next level. You’ll perform advanced jazz repertoire, develop your improvisation skills, and explore the artistry and techniques that make jazz unique. As a member of the ensemble, you’ll deepen your understanding of jazz theory, improvisation, musicianship, and the techniques of your instrument while learning to listen, respond, and perform as part of a dynamic group. This is a performance-based course, so outside rehearsals and performances are an essential part of the experience.

Design for Stage: Technical Theater

Love theater but prefer to work behind the scenes? This is your class. Technical Theater gives students the opportunity to explore the many creative and technical roles that bring a performing arts production to life. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll discover what happens backstage, backstage, and behind the curtain while developing practical skills through real production projects. You’ll explore lighting design, set design and construction, stage management, house management, and props design and construction, with additional introductions to sound, costumes, and makeup. Whether you’re interested in design, construction, organization, technology, or simply want to see how a production comes together, this course will help you discover your place in the world of theater and how to make a show happen.
