More Than a Schedule–A Place to be Known
At Thornton Academy Middle School (TAMS), our philosophy is grounded in care, connection, and high expectations for every learner. We believe middle school should be a place where students are known, challenged appropriately, and supported as individuals. Our approach is guided by heart as much as it is by academics, ensuring that every student feels a true sense of belonging while being encouraged to reach their full potential.

Individualized Learning

Personalized Learning Plans are at the heart of how we support each student at TAMS. They provide a structured way for students to set goals, reflect on their progress, and actively participate in their own learning.
Recess

Recess is an important part of the middle school day that supports both social and emotional development. It gives students time to move, relax, and build positive relationships with peers. This unstructured time helps students return to learning more focused, balanced, and ready to engage.
Clubs

We believe that the happiest and most successful students are well-rounded and active with what they love to do. A multitude of clubs are available to our students. All clubs and activities are led by Thornton Academy teachers and are open to all students at the middle school.
Sports

Students at TAMS have the opportunity to participate in seven sports. As an experienced athlete or new to a sport, we encourage students to go out for a team. Coaches provide a supportive atmosphere where athletes develop their skills, work on sportsmanship, get fit, and have fun.
Small Community

Our small school community allows us to truly know our students as individuals. Teachers and staff are able to build strong relationships, understand student strengths and needs, and provide more personalized support. This sense of connection helps students feel safe, valued, and part of a caring community.
Homeroom

Homeroom provides a consistent daily touchpoint where students begin and end their day with a trusted adult and peer group. It offers time for organization, communication, and connection, ensuring students feel grounded and supported. Homeroom helps create a strong sense of belonging and routine within the school day.
