A Home That Inspires–It Happens Here!

Our students often say that our array of academic and extracurricular programming is what attracted them to Thornton Academy, but the boarding program is what made it their home. Our dormitories are where students learn to live and grow together.

Our Dormitories At-A-Glance

Residential students at Thornton Academy truly get the best of both worlds: the unparalleled academic and extracurricular offerings of the most comprehensive school in Maine, and with only 180 students living on campus they receive the supportive care and attention of a small boarding school.

A floor plan of a building with numbered rooms is shown above four photographs of a lounge, a kitchen, a student dorm room, and a laundry room.

1. LOUNGE: Common areas for watching TV, playing video games, accessing printers for homework, & more.
2. NURSE'S OFFICE: Dorms have a dedicated nurse.
3. KITCHEN: While every meal is provided, dorms are equipped with kitchens for students to develop life skills.
4. RESIDENTIAL LIFE OFFICE: Students can access assistance whenever needed.
5. STUDENT DORM ROOM: Individual rooms marked★. TA has 4 dorms in total, with boys and girls living separately.
6. DORM PARENT APARTMENTS: Each dorm houses 4 dorm families, trusted teachers and staff who average 10 years in the dorm.
7. BATHROOM: 1 of 2 bathroom facilities on this floor– professionally cleaned daily.
8. LAUNDRY ROOM: Everything is provided free-of-charge for students to do their own laundry.

Residental boarding is available for grades 6-12.

There are 4 dormitories at TA–boys and girls live in separate buildings.

Two students reside per room.

Dorms are locked 24/7 and require key access.

Dorm parents and academic advisors are experienced and trusted members of our faculty who average 10 years in the dorm.

Student leadership opportunities are available; dorm prefects assist dorm parents and act as an older brother or sister to the students in the hall.

Housing options are provided for three school vacation breaks: Thanksgiving, Winter Break (February), and Spring Break (April)

Kitchens, study lounges, modern bathrooms with private showers, big screen TVs and Wi-Fi available in all dorms.
