Thornton Academy was thrilled to hold its annual auction for the month of May 2021. After a year of many postponements and cancelled plans, the event theme “Celebrate Your Way Through May,” was a fitting choice to make up for the lost time from 2020. The virtual event brought people together from all around the country to connect with Thornton Academy and each other while observing May’s National holidays — Dance Like A Chicken Day, Star Wars Day, Mother’s Day, School Lunch Hero Day, and many others — with delightful corresponding packages up for bid.
Throughout the month, 245 auction “guests,” who spanned 15 states, participated by bidding on packages, 117 businesses or individuals made in-kind or sponsorship donations, and 54 alumni or friends became our auction ambassadors by volunteering their time to sell raffle tickets or by assisting with auction promotional videos.
The auction was a success and raised over $102,000. These funds went immediately to work in support of Thornton Academy students by way of sustaining the free breakfast and lunch program, providing critical programming, expanding extracurricular activities, improving technology, and enhancing the overall student experience. Thank you to everyone, near and far, who participated and supported this year’s auction.
Thornton Academy is looking forward to continuing the auction tradition with an in-person event on campus in May of 2022.
